I’ll sit in the middle and quietly see
what was, what is, and what is yet to be.
No wanting, no wishing, no need to control,
just watching the story as quietly it rolls.
I’ll watch people rise, I’ll watch people fall,
I’ll watch them grow taller, or lose it all.
I’ll watch them discover, I’ll watch them depart,
I’ll watch every ending that once was a start.
The beautiful moments, the difficult days,
the unexpected turns and mysterious ways.
The highs and the lows, the bright and the gray,
the things that arrive and the things that decay.
I won’t reach for the pieces or alter the scene,
or question what should have or could have been.
I won’t try to steer it, or pull at a thread,
I’ll leave it untouched and let it be led.
I’ll watch how a stranger becomes someone dear,
how someone once close can simply disappear.
How lives rearrange in a way we can’t see,
how nothing stays fixed, how nothing will be.
And somewhere above every plan that we make,
there’s a wisdom that knows every turn we will take.
For God writes the story beyond what we know,
and sees every place that we’re destined to go.
He lines up the moments with effortless grace,
and puts every person in just the right place.
He tailors our stories with measures unknown,
and builds us a future we could never have shown.
For human eyes see but a fraction of time,
one piece of the puzzle, one unfinished line.
We call something ending; He calls it a start.
We call something breaking; He calls it an art.
And how could we know what the next page will say,
when we cannot see past the end of today?
We guess at the ending, we fear what may come,
while God knows the story from where it’s begun.
So I’ll sit in the middle, with nothing to prove,
and watch what He moves, and watch what He removes.
No judgment, no grasping, no need to be right,
just watching His hand turn the dark into light.
Let others become who they’re meant to become.
Let some roads grow silent, let others be spun.
Let fortunes rise upward, let circumstances fall,
I don’t need to understand all of it all.
I’ll simply bear witness, with wonder and awe,
to the beautiful order I cannot yet draw.
For what looks like chaos to my human eye
may be perfect alignment beneath the sky.
So let it unfold.
Let it wander. Let it flow.
Let it become what only God can know.
I will not chase it.
I will not interfere.
I will simply watch,
and trust that He is near.
Because the story is His,
and the ending is too.
And somehow, somehow,
He always knows what to do.
